Job Description
Qualifications 
- NEBOSH Diploma / NEBOSH Level 6 (or equivalent) with strong relevant experience
- Proven HSW management experience within Power / Utilities / Electrical Infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrable experience working on National Grid projects, including compliance with National Grid safety standards, systems, and reporting expectations.
- Strong knowledge of LV and HV works and electrical safety management.
- Strong working knowledge of UK legislation including CDM Regulations and Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Experience delivering audits, inspections, assurance programmes, and incident investigations.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, including client-facing experience.
- Competent in HSW reporting, performance monitoring, and KPI management.
- Relevant National Grid competency / authorisation experience (as required for role access and site compliance).
- Experience managing and developing HSW teams.
- Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards.
- Experience supporting major framework contracts within National Grid or similar DNO/TSO clients.
- Experience in digital HSW systems, dashboards, BI tools and reporting platforms.
- Experience developing HSW systems, procedures, and competency frameworks.
- Provide HSW support to site and project teams as the designated HSW representative, including best practice guidance, investigations, site assurance, inspections, reviews, meetings, and engagement activities. Ensure alignment and compliance with company, client, legal, and industry standards, including coordination with contractors and subcontractors. Support the management of high-risk activities, contribute to behavioural safety and cultural improvement, and maintain a visible on-site presence as required.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, legislation, and industry best practices.
- Produce high-quality HSW reports, strategy updates, and communications for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support and lead incident investigations and root cause analysis to promote learning and continuous improvement.
- Lead and support HSW meetings, including preparation of reports and materials.
- Manage time effectively across a portfolio of projects and business priorities.
- Lead and manage Health, Safety & Wellbeing across the Power Business Unit, ensuring full compliance with company, legal, and National Grid requirements.
- Act as the senior HSW representative for National Grid projects across the UK, providing visible leadership and client engagement.
- Ensure safe delivery of works involving LV and HV electrical systems, maintaining compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations and National Grid safety rules.
- Provide proactive HSW support to project teams through site inspections, audits, assurance reviews, and engagement activities.
- Lead and support incident investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis and effective implementation of lessons learned.
- Maintain and implement the Health & Safety Management System in line with ISO 45001, Group standards, and client frameworks.
- Monitor and report on HSW performance, including KPI tracking, trend analysis, and reporting to BU leadership and client stakeholders.
- Line manage and develop the HSW team, ensuring consistent standards and effective site support across all projects. Support bid and pre construction activities by contributing HSW input, documentation, and compliance evidence for National Grid tenders.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the Power BU, driving behavioural safety initiatives and continuous improvement.
- Support the Better Together safety programme, helping embed a positive HSW culture across all levels of the organisation.
- Ensure effective coordination of contractors and subcontractors to maintain high HSW standards across all works.
- Maintain regular presence across UK project sites, with travel and overnight stays as required.
