Senior Nurse - Yorkshire Place Based

Main duties of the job

In this pivotal position, with the support of the Clinical Nurse Manager, you will oversee the daily management of a committed team of Marie Curie nurses and healthcare assistants providing overnight care in patients homes. Your role will encompass staff training and development, incident investigation, caseload management, and collaboration with the Co-ordinators across Yorkshire. Together with the Clinical Nurse Manager, you will ensure the effective delivery of Marie Curie Yorkshire Hospice Care at Home, and you will act as deputy in the Clinical Nurse Managers absence.

We are recruiting for 2 Senior Nurses to join our Yorkshire Hospice Care at Home Team.

Salary:Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale, aligned with AFC Band 6 £38,682 - £46,580 pro rata per annum + enhancements

In this key role, supported by the Clinical Nurse Manager, you will provide day-to-day line management of a dedicated team of Marie Curie nurses and healthcare assistants who work nights in patients homes. Your responsibilities will include training and development, investigating incidents, managing caseloads, and supporting the Co-ordinators in Yorkshire. Alongside the Clinical Nurse Manager, you will be responsible for delivering the Marie Curie Yorkshire Hospice Care at Home. You will also deputise for the Clinical Nurse Manager in their absence.

As a confident communicator and calm decision-maker, you will need experience and knowledge in palliative care and community services, along with well-developed assessment and planning skills. The ability to prioritise your work while managing a variety of changing demands is essential.

This hybrid role will be home-based, with regular travel to various venues across Yorkshire to meet with nursing teams and attend relevant End of Life Care meetings. Therefore, the ability to drive and access a vehicle insured for business use is essential.

• Registered Nurse on NMC Register
• Experience in Mentorship/Teaching qualification
• Strong time management skills and the ability to proactively plan and schedule your own workload, to meet patient care requirements.
• The flexibility to work across a varied shift pattern.
• Integration with Yorkshire place based teams.
• Experience in observation and provision of clinical skills training, to determine standards of care.
• An understanding of specific needs of patients approaching end of life and in the terminal phase.
• Driving licence and access to your own vehicle and a willingness to travel within the region

Person Specification Experience

• Experience caring for patients with palliative care needs (hospice/hospital/community)
• Understanding of steps involved in audit and research
• Understanding of steps involved in introducing change
• Understands benefits of working with a patient-centred philosophy of multi disciplinary team working
• Experience in caring for non- cancer patients requiring palliative care
• Experience of standard setting and audit
• Experience in leading a team of nurses
• Experience of delivering care in a community setting

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse on NMC Register
• Working towards a Master of Nursing/MSc. in Cancer/Palliative Care (or equivalent)
• Postgraduate Diploma in Cancer/Palliative Care or relevant subject
