Job Description

A rewarding opportunity has arisen for a Senior Nurse to join the East Lancashire District Nursing Service on a permanent basis. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Registered Nurse with substantial experience in district nursing. This role offers the chance to work within a supportive team while developing advanced skills in patient assessment, complex care delivery, and team leadership.

This is a seven-day service, and the successful candidate must be able to work contracted hours on a rotational basis across day and night shifts, including weekends and Bank Holidays, in line with service needs.

Community nursing experience is essential for this role. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are also required.

We are committed to promoting flexible working opportunities to support a positive work-life balance.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Nurse supports the Clinical Team Leader in coordinating and delivering high-quality care in line with national and local District Nursing priorities. The role includes assessing new and complex patients and completing comprehensive Senior Nurse Reviews in patients' homes and other community settings. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and personalised care.

A key aspect of the role is supporting students and newly appointed staff, contributing to their learning and development, and helping to build a confident, skilled team through effective leadership and positive role modelling. You will also oversee staffing rotas, allocate clinical work, and maintain clear, compassionate communication with colleagues, patients, and families.

The post includes participation in the District Nursing Hub, providing weekend, evening, and bank holiday cover on a rotational basis. You must be able to work contracted hours flexibly across both day and night shifts to meet service needs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong professional leadership and a genuine commitment to excellent patient care. You will need to be confident in problem-solving, adaptable in challenging situations, and capable of managing resources effectively. A dedication to high-quality care, along with the confidence to positively challenge practice to maintain patient and staff safety, is essential.
