Job Description

The Royal Marsden Hospital is Europe's largest Oncology centre with sites in Chelsea and Sutton. The Nuclear Medicine Department (Nuc Med, PET/CT, Therapies) is looking for an enthusiastic and well motivated individual to join our team on the Sutton site. The successful candidate will help support the department as a whole and ensure that the service is patient focused and provides high quality care. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to professional development, an enthusiasm for their work and a keen interest in the future of the Diagnostic Imaging Service. A degree or masters in Nuclear Medicine qualification and post graduate experience is essential. Full training in PET/CT will be provided where required. The candidate will be expected to support both the service and its staff in maintaining and developing the highest standards of imaging.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will be responsible for the timely, efficient and courteous provision of Nuclear Medicine and PET services.
  • The post-holder will liaise with a variety of staff throughout the Trust, including wards and theatres and with those from other NHS trusts. The key working relationships in the department will be with the imaging, medical, clerical and nursing staff.
  • The post holder will have considerable patient contact, including contact with the terminally ill. Patient presentation will include the unconscious, incapacitated, confused and those with physical and mental disabilities.
Job responsibilities
  • Ensure correct identification of patients.
  • Ensure the timely, efficient and courteous provision of imaging services within available resources: booking of appointments, explanation of procedures, cannulation and injection of patients, administration of oral, intravenous and inhaled radiopharmaceuticals, operation of gamma cameras and PET/CT scanner.
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative results to agreed standards.
  • Perform data analysis, hard copy production and archiving in a timely, consistent and accurate manner.
  • Comply with written systems of work and Trust standards for record keeping.
  • Maintain patient and visitor safety and wellbeing within the department.
  • Adhere to local rules on radiation protection.
Person Specification
  • Evidence of professional development.
  • Evidence of clinical experience.
  • Degree in Nuclear Medicine (or equivalent science degree plus a Master in Nuclear Medicine).
  • Appropriate state registration.
  • Post graduate experience in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Previous PET/CT experience.
  • Ability to express themselves clearly.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to use a range of computer software.
  • Evidence of problem solving.
  • Relaxed, pleasant, cheerful, adaptable, enthusiastic, confident, flexible, satisfactory health record.
  • Evidence of career development.
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of the service (e.g. shift work) and ability to work on both sites.
