Our Client is a marine power pioneer, leading the development of advanced technology for commercial shipping and maritime applications.

The Role

Our Client is recruiting for a highly motivated and skilled Senior Nuclear Engineer to join their London based dynamic team. This role will sit within a multidisciplinary Engineering Office and will be responsible for the design, integration and research of nuclear systems for Floating Nuclear Power Plants (FNPPs) and Nuclear Merchant Ships (NMS). The role has a thermal-hydraulics and plant transient analysis focus, with supporting involvement in neutronics and shielding work.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for the development of engineering appraisal work for a range of different reactor technology projects.

Development and V&V of thermal-hydraulics models for plant transient analysis.

Take a senior role in the design and integration of nuclear systems in maritime applications, from defining requirements to preliminary design.

Conduct technical evaluations, feasibility studies, and risk assessments for this discipline.

Ability to understand, supervise, distribute and oversee analysis of important project criteria.

Ability to understand and implement nuclear regulatory standards.

Review and approve calculation packages on behalf of the company prepared by project teams and 3rd parties.

Co-developing of neutronics models for core design and shielding.

Working under a Systems Engineering Framework for the design of Floating Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Merchant Ships.

Contributing to ongoing research and co-authoring peer reviewed publications for nuclear technology at sea.

Authoring and reviewing of technical reports and documentation.

Presenting work to internal and external stakeholders.

Act as a mentor to junior engineers and naval architects and internship students.

Ensure that all design and engineering work is performed, reviewed, checked and approved in accordance with engineering procedures or Project Quality Plans.

Monitor the latest developments in nuclear design, operation and regulation.

Technical collaboration within a multidisciplinary team including marine engineers and naval architects.

Availability to travel to the US or other international locations.

Key Requirements

Skills & Experience

Job Requirements:

MSc/MEng or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.

UK citizenship or a valid UK visa permitting full-time employment, with citizenship from DOE Part 810 authorised countries only.

Experience working in a similar role.

Preferred Competences / Experience:

Fully proficient in thermal-hydraulics and transient analysis (e.g., Flownex, RELAP, MOOSE, OpenModellica).

Strong understanding of reactor physics; familiarity with point kinetics, depletion and Monte Carlo Particle Transport Software (e.g., MCNP, OpenMC, ATTILA, CASMO).

Experience with nuclear safety systems design (Reactivity Control Systems, Containment, Emergency Cooling Systems).

Experience with Systems Engineering fundamentals.

Experience with software Validation & Verification.

Experience complying with Quality Assurance Programs and Codes (NQA-1/ASME preferred).

Knowledge and practice of Nuclear Safety Culture and Principles.

Comfortable completing calculations using both first principles and computational methods.

Critical thinking skills and ability to manage design uncertainties and identify risk mitigations.

Direct experience in multidisciplinary design projects in the nuclear and / or marine industry.

Experience engaging with external stakeholders in engineering projects.
