Job Description

Emergency services are receiving increasing volumes of calls for individuals presenting with acute mental health Issues in the community. A significant proportion of emergency services resource is being used to support individuals struggling with their mental health, who often present with complex issues that require further assessment and ongoing support.The Mental Health Urgent Triage Team (MHUT) is a partnership betweenPennine Care Foundation Trust, NWAS and GMP. The post holder will be based within the clinical hub in NWAS and will have training in the use of the EOC software systems. Within the Clinical Hub at EOC the postholder will have access /support of , clinical navigators, shift coordinators, Pharmacist (if on duty) and Performance leads. The postholder will receive training to use the EOC software systems and time to shadowanother practitioner to support them in this role.Provide timely access to relevant all-age patient information for Greater Manchester residents across the Service Providers' areas which shall include CAMHS, learningdisabilities and older people.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the MHUT service to provide an effective and efficiento response to referrals from GMP and NWAS.o To support service users to access the right care at the right time in the least restrictive way, reducing system pressures across emergency services, our locality EDs and S136 suites.o To provide urgent triage of mental health related 999 calls using assessment, formulation and decision-making skills to ascertain risk, self-defined crisis and next steps.o To complete mental health assessments following triage for those presenting with acute mental health needs.o To strengthen working relationships between agencies on the front lineproviding mutual education and sharing insight into available local resource and support for local services users.o To triage 999 calls in relation to mental health with a view to ensuring the patient has access to the most appropriate service and use clinical decision making to establish if an emergency response is still required.o Work in partnership with other agencies including NWAS, GMP and VCSE colleagues.o To undertake a situation, background, assessment and recommendations (SBAR) assessment for people presenting with acute mental health needs.o To provide NWAS and GMP crew/colleagues with on-scene support via the professional's line, including s136 consultation.o Navigate multiple electronic record systems to support a more informed response to critical risk management.

Person Specification
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • NMC Registration
  • Post Registration Experience
  • Experience of working with individuals who present to mental health services in crisis and have symptoms of mental health illness
  • Understanding of current mental health legislation, Safeguarding and Child Protection Legislation
  • Knowledge of psychosocial assessment and risk assessment / management processes
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Adult acute mental health work experience
