Job Description
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer 
We have an exciting opportunity for a senior mechanical design engineer to work for a Cambridge-based electronic manufacturing business. Our client is a motion control company that is a world leader in providing core technology solutions to specialised industrial and medical OEMs. They have vast experience at the intersection of semiconductors and motion, as well as a track record of solving challenging technological problems. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary design team designing new products from idea to design, validation, and final release into full production, and will be involved in the entire design life cycle.
Essential Requirements- Self-starter who is optimistic and well organized, with outstanding communication skills and the ability to work with engineers in all disciplines.
- Mechanical engineering HNC or similar, or recent apprenticeship experience.
- Extensive experience creating manufacturing 2D drawings that provide Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance, finish, and material requirements in accordance with BS8888:2017 (8 years or more preferred).
- Modelling experience in SolidWorks (6 years or more preferred).
- Material selection experience for a number of mechanical items.
- Experience in product development and transfer of new products into manufacturing.
- Multitasking, time management, and the ability to function independently.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Personal contribution to the company's performance and a sense of urgency.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Being able to communicate in Mandarin.
- Prototyping experience of manual turning and milling.
- Understanding of a broad range of component manufacturing processes and techniques.
- Experience with prototype assembly, assessment, characterisation, and testing.
- Operating and using FDM 3D printers.
- Knowledge of linear and rotary contactless position sensing techniques.
- Basic electronic part information and the ability to follow basic circuits.
- Ability to build macros and scripts in Visual Basic.
- Soldering via hole and surface mount components.
- Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
