Role Overview
We are seeking a
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a busy and growing building services consultancy in Cardiff. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering design solutions across a diverse range of projects including commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and industrial sectors.
This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative team where you will have autonomy over your work, lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and help shape the technical direction of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design and engineering on projects from concept through to completionPrepare and review detailed calculations, specifications, and design documentationProduce drawings and BIM/Revit models to a high standardManage project deliverables including design risk assessments, client liaison, and coordination with multi-disciplinary teamsMentor and support junior and intermediate engineersEnsure designs comply with relevant UK standards and regulations (e.g., CIBSE, Building Regulations, Part L)Keep up to date with industry best practices and emerging technologiesContribute to business development and client relationship managementSkills & Experience
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent)Typically 6+ years' experience in mechanical building services design consultancyStrong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, heating, ventilation, cooling, and renewable technologiesExperience with design software including AutoCAD, Revit, and relevant calculation toolsProven ability to manage projects and lead design teamsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsUnderstanding of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and sustainability principlesChartered status (e.g., CEng, MCIBSE) is preferred but not essentialWhy Join?
