BAM Construction is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer for our Southern division within the Building Services business.

Your mission

About the role:

  1. Input at tender and cost planning stages, including evaluating M&E consultants' specifications and tender drawings, buildability reviews, alternative design philosophies, logistics, and planning.
  2. Manage the design team to meet obligations, organize and chair design workshops.
  3. Monitor the production of M&E design information, ensuring interface coordination with architects and structural engineers, and that design details meet the employer's requirements.
  4. Raise, manage, and monitor technical queries and RFIs as required.
  5. Contribute to tender lists for specialist M&E subcontractors and major plant/equipment.
  6. Evaluate supply chain tender returns and quotations for compliance and value.
  7. Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure order completeness, specification compliance, and interface with electrical and construction elements.
  8. Engineer contractor responsibilities such as fan/pump sizing, bracketry, and expansion.
  9. Prepare and agree on technical submissions for mechanical plant and equipment.
  10. Manage the delivery of plant and equipment to meet schedule, including factory witness testing.
  11. Oversee production and delivery of M&E coordinated installation drawings, ensuring compliance, good engineering practice, and safety standards.
  12. Manage specialists like sprinkler systems and BMS.
  13. Prepare and monitor client and design changes.
  14. Coordinate with the construction team, including site inspections.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to manage workload and time effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, lead, and manage teams.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and design/coordination requirements.
  • Proficiency in IT skills, including Excel and Word; training provided for other software.
  • Ideally, an engineering degree or equivalent with 5 years of experience in construction/building services.
  • Management experience is beneficial.
  • Enthusiastic, determined, adaptable, and flexible.
