The UK Employee Relations team are responsible for supporting the firm across a broad spectrum of ER activities including complex case management, organisational change, and people policy development.

This is a senior Leadership role within the ER team, with accountability for proactively driving ER service delivery and evolution, innovation, and risk based commercial solutions.You will work closely and report to the Head of Employee Relations and work with other functional leaders in the delivery of strategic ER support.

With the ongoing evolution of the ER operating model, you will play a pivotal strategic role in driving positive change and engagement across Employee Relations, specifically in relation to strategic matters, service delivery, special projects, and continuous service improvement.

High level role scope:
  • Supports the Head of Employee Relations in the execution and integration of the ER strategy, ensuring all initiatives align with overarching business objectives.
  • Monitors and ensures that service delivery standards and performance against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are consistently met within the Employee Relations function. Develops and implements initiatives aimed at elevating the Employee Relations experience, proactively mitigating risks, resolving complex issues, and enhancing overall operational efficiency.
  • Offers holistic oversight of Employee Relations data, analytics, and reporting. This includes ensuring data integrity and identifying strategic and commercial trends to inform proactive ER interventions.
  • Acts as the primary escalation point for service delivery issues and challenges.
  • Provides strategic leadership for commercial Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) (TUPE) / Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) transactions and restructuring initiatives when required.
  • Fosters a transformation and Continuous Service Improvement (CSI) mindset within both the Employee Relations team and the wider HR function. This ensures processes are market-leading and effectively leverage technology and automation.
  • Contributes effectively to an inclusive team culture where individual contributions are recognised. Demonstrates a readiness to support and provide cover for other Employee Relations Leadership Team (ERLT) members as necessary, ensuring seamless service delivery to the business.
  • Manages the engagement and training plan for team members, acting as a mentor and fostering their professional development.
  • Drives the implementation of internal strategic changes and is accountable for staying informed of external best practices, legislative, and regulatory requirements. This ensures the Employee Relations service remains current, compliant, and strategically aligned.
  • Manages day-to-day relationships with internal customers and other stakeholders, serving as an escalation point for any service-related issues.
  • Acts as a deputy to the Head of Employee Relations as and when required.
Detailed role scope:
  • Manages a diverse portfolio of work across the entire Employee Relations spectrum, often juggling competing deadlines and priorities simultaneously.
  • Assumes accountability for ongoing service improvement, facilitating regular service reviews, and ensuring that quality assurance, recommendations, and learnings are effectively communicated, implemented, and monitored.
  • Leads the team to ensure the effective and timely resolution of Employee Relations matters, including complex casework and organisational change, ensuring the team are credible, trusted, and commercially astute Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
  • Provides coaching and development to HR colleagues to enhance their confidence, capability, and consistency of approach regarding all complex Employee Relations matters.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to develop, shape, and design organisational change and engagement programmes, including restructuring and changes to Terms and Conditions (T&Cs) as required.
  • Proactively engages with HR and business stakeholders to deliver commercial, risk-based people solutions that align with the Firm's goals and shared values. This includes upskilling leaders and promoting self-service, while fostering strong and meaningful relationships with leadership teams both within and outside HR.
  • As a member of the Employee Relations Leadership Team (ERLT), undertakes activities such as driving performance, recruitment, coaching and development of Employee Relations team members.
  • Providing assurance on the robust management of service delivery, complex ER projects, to the Head of ER, Director of People & Operational Effectiveness and Partner for HR
  • Supports the development of ER policies and procedures
  • Lead other ad hoc ER projects as required.

  • Comprehensive understanding of UK employment legislation and extensive experience delivering activity across the spectrum of ER.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading, managing and coaching a team of multi-disciplinary ER specialists at a senior level
  • Has a strong service delivery mindset and experience of measuring performance against SLA's, KPI's and performance goals
  • Has a data led approach with a high level of reporting and analytical skills
  • Experience of case management solutions and utilising technology to streamline and optimize processes
  • Ability to adopt a continuous improvement approach to ensure the service continues to positively develop and evolve
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced challenging environment, managing multiple stakeholders and complex / competing priorities and deadlines
  • Credible communicator with strong influencing and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong relationship builder with the ability to influence and inspire using data, knowledge, and expertise across all stakeholder groups
