The Institute of Law & Justice at Sheffield Hallam University has a proud 30-year tradition of delivering clinical legal education and applied learning. Ouraward-winning Hallam Legal Advice Centre (HLAC)is central to this, offering students invaluable hands-on legal experience while serving local communities across a broad range of legal needs.
Our advice centre isstudent-led, meaning students provide legal advice under the supervision of qualified professionals whilst providing free pro bono advice and support to clients. This model enables our students to develop practical legal skills and build professional networks that support successful legal careers.
We are now seeking adynamic and experienced Senior Lecturer and Supervising Solicitorto lead, mentor, and manage the HLAC. This key role ensures high-quality service delivery, compliance with professional and regulatory standards, and a consistently outstanding student experience.
About the Role
You will:
- Oversee and supervise the legal work carried out by students
- Ensure compliance with professional obligations and best practice standards
- Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment
- Manage and develop a team of qualified solicitors
- Develop strategic partnerships with law firms, pro bono and charitable organisations
- Contribute to teaching and curriculum development aligned with our applied learning strategy
- Implement a refreshed undergraduate and postgraduate law curriculum with clinical legal education embedded throughout
- Expand placement opportunities across the broader Institute of Law & Justice
- Move into a new flagship space at ourcity centre campus, offering greater proximity to the courts and local legal community
About You
We are seeking a candidate with:
- Significant legal practice experience and/or experience managing a law clinic or equivalent pro bono organisation
- A current practising certificate as a solicitor
- A strong commitment to widening access to justice and applied legal education
- Excellent leadership and mentoring skills
- The ability to work collaboratively across teams and external partners to develop innovative opportunities for students
You will be contractually enrolled into the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS) - one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country.
