Overview

Senior Future Power System Engineer- Belfast (Hybrid)

We're looking for a driven and solutions-focused power systems engineer with strong technical expertise and a passion for shaping the future of the energy sector. The ideal candidate is a team player with excellent analytical skills, experience in system modelling and analysis, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.

This is a full-time and permanent position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct power system studies including load flow, voltage, short circuit, and transient stability analyses.
  • Assess system challenges related to high renewable energy integration and develop technical solutions.
  • Analyse future interconnection, long-duration storage, and offshore projects to evaluate impacts on system strength and stability.
  • Use power system modelling tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, DSA Tools, or similar.
  • Build and maintain accurate dynamic models to reflect system performance during contingencies.
  • Improve modelling and analysis processes through automation and coding.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports and statutory publications like the Ten-Year Transmission Forecast Statement.
  • Communicate complex technical findings clearly through reports and presentations.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative, solution-driven team culture.
Criteria
  • Degree in Engineering or a related discipline, with at least 3 years' experience in the power systems or electricity industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of power systems, network planning, and transmission equipment.
  • Proficient in power system analysis and modelling using tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, DSA Tools, or MATLAB.
  • Experience with dynamic, harmonic, and EMT studies.
  • Good understanding of generation, demand, and enabling technologies connecting to the grid.
  • Familiar with industry regulations, licences, technical standards, and grid codes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis.
