Responsibilities

As a Senior Estimator, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the estimating function and integrating best practices to develop accurate and competitive cost projections for housing developments.
  • Managing and mentoring a new team, fostering an inclusive and collaborative workplace culture.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including designers, contractors, and clients, to create robust cost estimates for award-winning housing projects.
  • Evaluating tender documents, architectural plans, and project specifications to identify opportunities for value engineering.
  • Preparing detailed cost estimates and pricing schedules for a mixed portfolio of development projects, ensuring client expectations are met.
  • Assisting in the creation of strategies for new business acquisition and supporting bid proposals.
  • Continuously reviewing and improving the estimating process, contributing to the overall success and growth of the team.
  • Maintaining strong knowledge of market trends, industry standards, and emerging best practices within the housing sector.
Qualifications

To succeed as a Senior Estimator, you will bring:

  • Proven experience in estimating within the housing sector, particularly in delivering high-quality developments for a mixed blend of clients.
  • A track record of working on award-winning or high-standard housing development projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing teams, with the ability to inspire and motivate others effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using estimating tools, software, and industry-relevant tools (e.g., Bluebeam, CostX, ConQuest, or similar software).
  • A thorough understanding of industry standards, building codes, and procurement processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • A degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Day-to-Day

On a typical day, you can expect to:

  • Review project details and collaborate with design and project management teams to refine specifications and budgets.
  • Guide and support junior team members, reviewing their work, and providing constructive feedback to help them grow.

  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates, analyzing risk factors, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to formulate strategies for project bids and tenders.
  • Research current market conditions and stay informed about pricing trends, materials, and construction methods.
  • Lead internal team discussions to plan methods for process improvement and share knowledge about innovative practices.
