Senior Estimator in the Construction Industry to join our Peterborough Branch Works Department

What we need
  • A Degree in a relevant discipline such as Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
  • Professional Membership with RICS or CIOB or similar accreditation
  • Extensive estimating experience within a similar environment
  • Excellence in reviewing and interpreting construction drawings, specifications and contracts
  • Strong technical construction/refurbishment knowledge with an excellent understanding of building methods, materials, regulations, refurbishment constraints and regulations
  • Commercial contract awareness with JCT contracts, procurement and cost control principles
  • Exceptional leadership, management and organisational capabilities
  • Expertise in pre construction strategies and market awareness
  • Confident with a range of IT systems and estimating software
  • Self motivated, proactive and a positive attitude
  • Excellent team player with the ability to integrate and inspire others
  • Full UK driving licence (minimum 6 months' experience post test)
  • Willingness to undertake training and personal development
  • Commitment to maintaining professional standards and continuous improvement

Job Description

Reporting to a Director, you will take the lead in the full estimating function of the Company. Acting as a key advisor to the senior project teams for refurbishment, fit out and construction projects. Ensuring accurate bids, cost planning, competitive tender submissions and commercially sound strategies whilst continually improving our estimating processes and procedures.

You'll play a pivotal role within the team and work closely with our clients to understand the project needs, all whilst ensuring that every project is delivered safely, efficiently, profitably and to the highest standard of client satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the estimating department and its team.
  • Produce detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities and tender submissions.
  • Provide knowledge and support to enable efficient preparation, coordination and submission of tenders including reviewing and interpretation of contract design, construction drawings, specifications and contracts.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of project plans, specifications, scope of works, materials and time calculations for projects.
  • Collaborate with clients, their agent or on site personnel to gather the information necessary for accurate estimates.
  • Prepare and submit competitive bids, tenders and estimates.
  • Assess project profitability and suggest ways to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Identify project risks, propose mitigation strategies and develop value options.
  • Monitor and report on job profitability.
  • Prepare valuations and final accounts.
  • Work closely with project managers and their teams to ensure estimates align with delivery strategies.
  • Consult with relevant stakeholders on pre construction discussions, changes and adjustments.
  • Identify and implement improvements to any aspect of the service that we provide and contribute to business development.
  • Procurement of new clients, stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Maintain outstanding levels of client satisfaction.
  • Promote and monitor Health & Safety practices.
  • Regular use of bespoke computer systems and other software packages (Word, Excel, Project) including estimating software
  • Undertake duties in line with business requirements.

This is a full time position, and hours of work will be 42 hours per week. This will also involve daily travel and working away as deemed necessary for the needs of the business.

07:45hrs to 17:15hrs Monday to Thursday

07:45hrs to 16:45hrs Friday
