Job Description

Senior Environmental Advisor

Location: East London and Essex - travel to projects across the South of England and ad-hoc travel to our Dartford head office

Laing O'Rourke are seeking a motivated Senior Environmental Advisor to support the delivery of complex, high-profile projects. This role is ideal for someone with strong experience in environmental management and sustainability who is passionate about driving best practice within the construction industry.

You will play a key role in ensuring projects meet strict environmental and sustainability standards while supporting our ambitions around net zero and nature-positive delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support delivery of the organisation's sustainability strategy, including net zero and nature-positive outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with the Energy and Environmental Management System and relevant environmental legislation
  • Embed client and internal environmental requirements into project delivery
  • Identify environmental risks and opportunities and implement appropriate mitigation measures
  • Coordinate environmental consents and liaise with consent-granting authorities
  • Manage engagement with specialist environmental contractors
  • Develop and maintain Environmental and Sustainability Management Plans (CEMP, EMP, LEMP, SWMP, SMP)
  • Deliver environmental training and engage project teams on sustainability initiatives such as carbon reduction, waste minimisation and biodiversity protection
  • Monitor environmental performance through inspections and reporting
  • Support audits, management reviews, and the investigation of environmental incidents and corrective actions
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or related discipline
  • IEMA Practitioner (or equivalent professional membership)
  • Experience delivering environmental compliance and sustainability in project environments
  • Knowledge of ISO14001 and ISO50001 standards
  • BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP) training and experience coordinating compliance
  • Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to deliver training and workshops and support project teams effectively
  • Demonstrates leadership potential and an interest in progressing into a leadership role
