Job Description

Carlow County Council provides services to a population of over 62,000 citizens in the areas of housing, integration, regeneration, roads, transportation, planning, environment, libraries, economic and community development, tourism, fire and emergency response, parks, amenities, heritage, arts, and water services.

At a strategic level, the Council operates through its Corporate Policy Group comprising the Cathaoirleach of the Council and the Chairpersons of the local authority's four Strategic Policy Committees as well as a Municipal District representative. The Chief Executive and the Council's Management Team play a key role in supporting and advising this policy group.

An opportunity now exists in Carlow County Council for the position of Senior Engineer.

Job Summary/Description:

The Senior Engineer is a senior position within the local authority reporting to the Director of Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of the relevant department which will include modernising and managing change. Managers at this level work within defined parameters relevant to the position, in accordance with Carlow County Council's vision and objectives as set out in its Corporate Plan. They will be responsible for the introduction of new initiatives, policies and procedures and working with multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and progressive organisation that provides a multiplicity of services to the County.

The Senior Engineer will be required to work closely with the Senior Management Team and Elected Members to deliver the full range of services, implement local policy decisions and deliver on strategic corporate objectives and in accordance with the general policy direction of the elected council. Recognising Local Government as the main vehicle of governance and public service, the role will involve leading economic, social and community development, delivering efficient and good value services, and representing citizens and local communities effectively and accountably. Delivery of efficient services and value for money is crucial.
