The PositionWe are looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will develop embedded software for LumiraDx Point of Care Instruments, contributing to ongoing product enhancements and maintenance. You will collaborate with colleagues to define requirements, identify risks, and design and implement software that runs on or supports current versions or future developments of the Instrument. Your work will also support the laboratory-based prototyping, informing the final device design which will be transitioned to manufacturing. Additionally, you will cater to the needs of Test Strips development and commercialization through the software requirements of Instruments.
The Opportunity:- You will contribute to technical requirements, architecture, specifications, and interface design documents compliant with our established quality system and design controls.
- Design and implement embedded C software to quality standards for deployment on our medical device.
- Perform risk analysis and impact analysis of implemented software on the entire system.
- Lead software reviews and provide feedback on design and technical best practices.
- Lead development of technical requirements, architecture, specifications, and interface design documents compliant with our established quality system and design controls.
- Create and maintain low-level driver firmware for MCU peripherals such as UART, SPI, I2C, etc.
- Assist in prototype board debugging, providing problem analysis, test code if required, and solution options.
- Define and execute unit testing verification activities using unit testing frameworks to demonstrate the software design has met specifications.
- Collaborate closely with System and Software Testers to ensure development of tests to adequately verify all software activities.
- Develop supporting software tools and tests to exercise and regression test software features
- Lead defect analysis and root cause problem-solving.
- S suggest continuous improvement by participating in sprint retrospectives and wider team improvement initiatives, and help to implement the improvements.
- Proven embedded software engineering experience.
- Proficient in embedded C development.
- Experience working under a QMS and developing software for medical devices under IEC 62304 or equivalent regulatory standards.
- Experience creating software requirements from product requirements.
- Experience creating clear technical specifications and design documentation.
- Experience with unit testing frameworks, e.g. Unity, Ceedling, CMock.
- Experience with 16/32-bit Microcontrollers, RTOSs, multi-threaded and multi-processor systems, communication protocols (SPI, I2C, TCP/IP).
- Knowledge of interrupt handling, bootloaders, flash operations, and peripheral programming.
- Experience working in a formal Agile scrum development process (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe).
- Experience with software project management and code repository tools (e.g. Jira, Git).
- Experience with code quality/reliability standards (e.g. MISRA).
- Experience in creating and maintaining a software system that enables effective setup of experiments, captures experimental data, and allows review and analysis of the experimental data.
- Experience in embedded GUI development and GUI frameworks.
- Experience in higher-level languages for data processing, analysis, and internal tool development (e.g. Python, C#, R).
On-site presence: This is a hybrid role, requiring 60% (2-3 days per week) on-site presence at Maxim Park, Motherwell, central Scotland, to leverage the collaborative environment.
