Job Description
Job Summary
- This role is within our Infrastructure business unit, a civil engineering business focusing on small and medium-scale works across the UK, with expertise in Water, Environmental, and Highways collaborative frameworks.
- Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for working with our designer (Arcadis) and suppliers to deliver all electrical requirements across a project portfolio, collaborating with the commercial team to procure off- and on-site manufactured electrical components.
Responsibilities
- Safety, Health, and Wellbeing: Contribute to Thames Water's "Zero Incidents, Zero Harm, Zero Compromise" goals. Ensure electrical equipment complies with BS7671. Carry out NICEIC Qualified Supervisor duties.
- Productivity: Achieve improvements in productivity by implementing quality management for electrical design, manufacturing, and installation, ensuring "right first time" delivery. Monitor progress to meet schedules and budgets.
- Customer Focus: Build and maintain effective relationships with Thames Water Operations and stakeholders, providing excellent customer service.
- Conduct factory inspections and quality audits to ensure high-quality electrical installations.
- Culture: Embrace the company's and Thames Water's cultural values, promoting collaboration.
- Develop Sustainable Solutions: Demonstrate knowledge of sustainable construction and contribute to sustainable development activities.
- Digital Engineering: Collaborate with designers and the supply chain to leverage digital tools for integrated delivery.
- Design Collaboration: Use BIM models to ensure electrical designs are integrated with civil and mechanical designs.
- Engineering Proposals and Design: Provide technical expertise in electrical sub-contracts and material orders, vet proposals, and approve designs.
- Supply Chain: Engage with the supply chain to assess and develop capabilities that support delivery.
- Supervision: Oversee electrical installation works, ensuring safety, technical, and quality compliance.
- Effective Planning: Develop electrical work programs aligned with overall project schedules.
- Reporting: Report on electrical program and costs, and participate in project meetings.
- Quality Assurance: Create and maintain quality assurance plans and records.
- Outage Management: Plan and coordinate outages with Thames Water and stakeholders.
- Commissioning: Assist with electrical testing and pre-commissioning activities.
- Handover and Training: Contribute to manuals and provide training to Thames Water personnel.
Requirements
- Work as part of the Production Delivery Team.
- Supervise electrical suppliers during project delivery.
- Possess strong electrical project engineering experience within manufacturing or construction sectors.
Essential
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of control panel design, cable sizing/calculations, and instrumentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Commercial awareness.
- Understanding of MMC, Lean Construction, Agile Programme Management, and Production Thinking.
- Ability to plan and organize resources effectively.
- IT literacy and digital/BIM experience.
Desirable
- ICA skills.
- HNC in electrical engineering or higher qualification.
- Professional electrical engineering qualification.
- Experience in pre-production and production electrical project engineering.
