Role description:

Working within our established Transmission & Distribution team, you will be responsible for undertaking substation earthing design studies and measurements to ensure the health & safety of substation operatives. You will also be involved in completing pipeline interference studies.

Reporting to a Principal Engineer, you will assist in delivering project-related tasks to meet budget targets and contribute towards the achievement of the divisional business plan. Your role will include conducting risk analyses of projects, identifying potential threats and risks, and making recommendations for mitigation based on your electrical earthing expertise, or collaborating with stakeholders to agree on actions.

The role requires flexibility to visit site locations across the UK.

Role accountabilities:

Responsibilities include:

• Design and analysis of earthing systems using the CDEGS software suite
• Conducting measurements of earthing systems
• Designing lightning protection systems
• Performing interference studies and implementing mitigation strategies
• Managing multiple small earthing design projects within budget and time constraints
• Assisting in creating proposals and quotations for new work packages

Qualifications & Experience:

• Knowledge of earthing system measurements
• Experience with earthing system analysis using CDEGS software
• Experience with earthing issues and standards for power networks up to 400 kV
• Ability to communicate complex technical and commercial issues effectively to peers and senior managers
• Ability to develop effective working relationships quickly
• Proficiency in writing clear and concise documentation
• Willingness and ability to travel within the UK and overseas
