Senior Cloud Operations Engineer
Location: West Sussex - 1-2 days/week on-site
Salary: ~£70,000 + bonus
Contract: Permanent | Hours: 37 per week
Are you an experienced Azure specialist looking for a role where you can influence and shape a modern cloud environment? We're seeking a Senior Cloud Operations Engineer to help design, build, and operate the next generation of cloud infrastructure as part of a major digital transformation programme.
You'll be a hands-on expert in Microsoft Azure, working across IaaS, PaaS, automation, security, and cloud governance. You'll help develop and support enterprise Landing Zones, enable the shift towards cloud-native services, and ensure environments remain secure, resilient, and cost-efficient.
In this role, you'll work closely with architects, developers, data teams, and security specialists, acting as a trusted technical partner while driving best practice across automation, DevOps, operations, and FinOps.
What You'll Do
- Build, configure and operate secure Azure cloud environments (IaaS & PaaS)
- Support and enhance cloud Landing Zones and enterprise standards
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM)
- Automate deployments and operational processes (PowerShell, Azure CLI, CI/CD)
- Monitor cloud performance, availability, and security
- Support cloud governance, RBAC, policies, and compliance requirements
- Act as an escalation point for cloud incidents and operational challenges
- Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and best practices
- Support DR/BCP testing and ensure environment resilience
What You'll Bring
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
- Expertise in cloud networking, identity, security, and governance
- Proven skills in IaC (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM)
- Strong Scripting/automation (PowerShell, Python)
- Experience with containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD tooling
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
