12 month fixed term Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Infectious Diseases - a full-time post providing Registrar level cover for the department. The successful applicant will be expected to carry out all duties of a Paediatric Infectious Diseases Registrar, participating in all the activities of the PID Unit. Closing date: 18 February 2026.
Main duties of the jobSt George's Hospital provides the in-patient service for PID with a dedicated ward (Pinckney ward) as well as other inpatients in Paediatrics with infectious or immunological concerns. The PID unit provides a general PID clinic and specialised clinics in HIV, TB, congenital infections, immunodeficiencies, vaccinology and fungal infections. There is extensive outreach PID support to all District General Hospitals within South West London and within Surrey as a consult advice service. There is also a strong antimicrobial stewardship service and Paediatric Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (pOPAT) provision. The PID unit works closely with the Microbiology team with dedicated MDTs, as well as with the Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units, Radiology and colleagues at Evelina London Children's Hospital. The PID fellow will participate in all the above activities. The PID unit has a strong governance and research foundation and encourages PID fellows to participate in audits, service improvement projects, and to strengthen their research profile through the link with the Centre for Neonatal and Paediatric Infection (CNPI) at SGUL.

It provides general acute services together with specialty services including neurosciences, cardiothoracic, and specialist children's services. The department has its own outpatient area, child development centre, and occupies 5 wards comprising 71 inpatient and day-case beds for children with medical and surgical conditions including ENT and Ophthalmology, along with 10 Paediatric Intensive Care beds. There are 50 consultants and a fully staffed middle grade and ST rota composed of grid trainees, regional trainees, fellows and F1 doctors.
Job responsibilities- The successful applicant will be expected to carry out all duties of a Paediatric Infectious Diseases Registrar, with no out-of-hours activities.
- To participate in the different academic meetings in the unit.
- To participate in the regular programme of audits and service improvement.
- To take responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self and others and to comply with Health and Safety Regulations.
- To ensure confidentiality at all times and to release information only to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the Data Protection Act and its amendments.

- To ensure skills are up-to-date and relevant to the role, follow relevant Trust policies and professional codes, and maintain registration where required.

- To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time, as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.
- Full registration with GMC
- MRCP or MRCPCH or equivalent
- Medical Degree
- Teaching Qualifications
- Broad experience in Paediatrics
- Experience in Paediatric Infectious Diseases
- Experience of research projects
- Willingness to contribute to management
- Be willing to assist in the development audit and of an effective clinical audit programme
- To be computer literate
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Evidence of good communication skills
- Evidence of organization and motivation
- To have an understanding of the basic principles of clinical governance
- To be committed to building a framework for monitoring and improving clinical quality
- To build a clinical practice which is evidence based
