NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Main area Neuro Intensive Care Medicine. Fixed term 1 year, full time 40 hours per week including 1:8 on-call. Site Neuro ICU, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. Salary £73,992 per annum. Closing 09/02/2026.

An exciting opportunity to join the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit as a Senior Clinical Fellow. 1 year fixed term post ideal for a clinician recently acquired CCT or equivalent in Anaesthetics or Intensive Care with full GMC registration and licence to practice. Interest in Neuro Anaesthesia or Neuro Critical Care to gain experience supporting a Consultant application.

Main duties

Contribute at a senior level to the running of a busy specialist Intensive Care Unit, including management of junior colleagues and trainees. 1:8 full shift on call rota covering the Airway tier of the Neuro ICU.

Key responsibilities
  • Day to day running of the Neuro ICU, supervising junior colleagues and engaging with the wider MDT.
  • Teaching and quality improvement projects.
  • Phased introduction into daily leadership of the Unit under supervision of duty consultants.
  • Participation in twice daily consultant led ICU ward rounds and daily clinical reviews.
  • Contribution to the Neuro ICU clinical governance, quality improvement and teaching programmes.
Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
  • CCT or equivalent (or within 6 months at interview) in Anaesthetics and/or ICM.
  • ALS/ATLS.
  • Membership of NACCS.
Experience
  • General training in Anaesthetics or ICM to specialist level (or equivalent).
  • More than 3 years experience of independent airway skills.
  • Ability to supervise junior trainees and function at the level of a junior consultant.
  • Involvement in audit and research, including presentations and publications.
Skills
  • Leadership skills for a Senior Clinical Fellow in a large teaching hospital.
  • Commitment to continued professional development.
  • Excellent communication, teamworking and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of teaching doctors, nursing and the wider MDT, plus supervision of junior colleagues.
  • Knowledge of the NHS and clinical networks.
  • Understanding of ICNARC and TARN.
