TheDepartment of Urology is a dynamic and progressive unit providing care in allthe sub-specialities, including urological laparoscopy, interventional stonedisease, female and reconstructive urology, and medical and surgical andrology.Radical pelvic surgery for cancer is provided by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.The service is supported by a nurse consultant and a cancer nurse specialist inaddition to both UK and overseas trainees. The facilities are located in abespoke integrated unit which caters for in-patients, out-patients andchemotherapy.
Main duties of the jobWeare looking to recruit a talented individual to join our urology team. Thisrole will provide opportunity for the applicant to gain clinical experience inthe management of urological conditions and in undertaking core urologicalprocedures and access to more specialist procedures like complex ureteric stonesurgery working as part of a friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team. Wewill support any candidate who is motivated further their career, includingsupport in obtaining Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration(CESR) in a trust recognised for providing excellent training opportunities andwith a proven track record of success in the CESR process.
Ourteam are proud to provide the treatment of a full spectrum of urologicalproblems, including minimal invasive procedures such as Rezum, bladder cancertreatment and follow up, ureteric stone procedures and selected paediatricprocedures.
Wedo encourage and support our candidate to further their career, by supportingthem to sit FRCS exams and article 14 CESR route entry on to the specialistregister.
This job isto provide service and training in treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy ,stone disease, general and paediatric urology , follow up, and diagnosis ofbladder and prostate cancer.

The dutiesof a successful candidate would include undertaking the daily ward round withdirect consultant supervision, supervised clinics, endoscopy, and theatresessions with consultants. The opportunities for training and learning areplentiful and distributed throughout the activities.
The successfulapplicant would be supported to further develop clinical and procedural skills,and if capable could be given opportunity to have independent theatre sessionswith consultant support.
Thesuccessful candidate is also encouraged to engage in junior staff teaching andwould be allocated a named consultant for advice and guidance. The department provides opportunities forparticipation in audit and research, management and leadership as well asparticipating in and contributing towards education and learning within theteam and the wider trust.
The primaryclinical responsibilities of the post-holder are:
To provide aUrology service for inpatient and outpatient services and for the properfunctioning of the department in collaboration with the other members of theurology team.
To attend dailyward rounds, clinics and theatre
To support withother Medics and further develop the out-patient service and the in-patientservice.
Responsible forthe Management of Junior Medical Staff, carrying out Teaching, Examination andAccreditation duties as required, and contributing to Postgraduate andcontinuing Medical Education activity locally, regionally and nationally asappropriate.
To provide, withthe other Medics in the specialty, cover for annual, study and professionalleave when the rota allows under the direction of the Clinical Lead
The post holderwill be expected and encouraged to carry out research and clinical auditactivities, as an inherent part of normal clinical duties including attendanceat MDT meetings.
Full time job with no current out of hours commitments.
Person Specification Qualifications- Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC
- Please confirm your GMC number
- MBBS Medical Degree
- History taking and examinations skills
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies or equivalent in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
- Mastery of basic skills with adults (history, examination, bloods, cannulation)
- Basic life support skills
- Previous NHS experience at Junior/ Senior Clinical Fellow level
- Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit
- Relevant research published in peer review journal
