Job Description
Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

We are delighted to offer an opportunity to join our team of paediatric emergency physicians at Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales (UHW). This post is aimed at middle grade doctors in Emergency Medicine or paediatrics with an interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

The post will commence on 5 August 2026 for a 12 month appointment.

Appointments will have up to 30% of working time devoted to research, teaching or other activities linked with the EMAC at Cardiff University, with an office based in the university. The remaining 70% of time is allocated to clinical duties in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, including participation in the out of hours rota which provides a banding supplement of 1A (50%).

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive specialist care in the designated hospitals, with responsibility for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of acute emergencies.

Maintain patient care during your charge and support the effective functioning of the department in line with departmental policy.

Supervise and manage junior medical staff professionally.

Carry out administrative duties related to patient care and departmental administration.

Engage with and advance research programmes within the department.

Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Life Support provider status on ALS, APLS or ATLS/ETC
  • Paediatric Life Support provider status on PILS, APLS or EPLS
  • Current GMC certificate with licence to practise
  • MCEM
  • Intercalated Degree
  • Academic Excellence
  • Instructor status in Life Support courses
Previous Experience
  • 12 months experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or Emergency Medicine in the UK as a middle grade doctor able to lead a department at night with remote supervision.
  • 4 years postgraduate experience in specialties relevant to emergency medicine.
  • Experience in paediatrics, intensive care, anaesthesia or acute medicine.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Excellent written and spoken English enabling effective communication about medical and legal topics.
  • Special interest or prior experience in medicolegal medicine.
  • Evidence of recent quality improvement projects or audits.
  • Teaching experience.
