This is an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic and dynamic individuals to join the Anaesthetic and intensive care teams based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield Hospital and Leicester General Hospital. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the posts of Senior ICM Anaesthetic FellowThis post is suitable for any grade of doctor who:- holds full GMC registration.- is thought to be within 2 years of gaining all competencies required for completion of training (CESR or CCT) and at least 4 years of experience in anaesthesia and intensive care.- has certificate of basic training in anaesthesia and obstetrics and at least gained the primary FRCA or equivalent.
Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant would work in parallel with anaesthetic training residents to provide on call cover in anaesthesia, obstetrics and intensive care across all three hospitals in UHL. Non-on call days will be dedicated to training and gaining of competencies through direct or mentored consultant supervision in theatres, obstetric and intensive care units. The post allows access to all teaching and training opportunities afforded to those undergoing anaesthetic training in the East Midlands.Depending on the individual's needs to complete their training there are opportunities to gain the equivalent of stage 3 training in obstetrics, intensive care and theatres covering the following specialities; General surgery, including lower GI, upper GI and hepatobiliary, ENT and MaxFax, Plastics, Paediatrics, Trauma and orthopaedics. Regional anaesthesia, Cardiac, Thoracic, Daycase surgery, Renal transplant, Vascular, isolated site anaesthesia and pre-assessment including CPET. Neuro-anaesthesia is not available in UHL.

Job responsibilitiesUniversity Hospitals of Leicester supports one of the biggest anaesthetic departments in the country, covering 3 acute hospitals and 3 community hospitals.
Leicester has a well established reputation in education in anaesthesia and in the future will be delivering training to increasing numbers of Foundation trainees and CMT trainees, rotating through ICM and anaesthesia. There is a growing need for a team of enthusiastic individuals to assist in delivering this training, working closely with the consultant leads in foundation and ICM training.
Each of the 3 hospitals in Leicester has an intensive care unit supporting tertiary services in hepatobiliary surgery, renal and transplant, general surgery, cardiothoracic and cardiac surgery. Each of the units is involved in national and local research and audit.
Leicester Hospitals have a well-established CPET and pre-operative exercise programme as well as running high risk clinics for all major specialities.
The clinical component of the post will involve supporting a 1:8 on call rota in anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia or intensive care depending on service needs.
Person Specification Training & Qualifications- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Previous employment in an anaesthetic capacity and Initial Assessment of Competence certificate
- FRCA/FCARCSI/FICM
- Suitable experience for oncall anaesthetic work, including: Intensive care, Obstetrics, Emergency theatre (e.g. employment history, supervisor letter or logbook summary)
- Evidence of teaching at an undergraduate level
- Higher qualifications in Medical Education
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in Clear, fluent and articulate in verbal and written presentation.
- Self-motivated and desire to succeed
