Senior Clinical Fellow in HPB

Applications are open for a HPB Senior Clinical Fellow who wishes to gain experience in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery. The role would be suitable for a senior trainee and is for a maximum of five months. The Senior Clinical Fellow will be expected to manage Pre- and post-operative patients. The Senior Clinical Fellow will be encouraged to publish and present at local and international meetings in HPB. Modular HPB cases hands-on training (STU) for both benign and malignant conditions. Cross-site case observations. Undertake a 1:18 on-call rota to support emergency care.

Main duties of the job

In addition to HPB registrar work, the duties of the post include providing senior cover for HPB patients, attending theatre/outpatient sessions and care of admitted General Surgical patients. There is a commitment to the acute general surgical rota (commensurate with experience). The appointed candidate will be expected to carry out a degree of clinical work (clinics) independently. There is access to modern imaging (CT PET), Endoscopy (ERCP and EUS) and robotics on a single site. This post offers excellent exposure and experience in complex HPB surgery. The Senior Clinical Fellow is expected to develop operative skills in robotic surgery and judgement in the care of such patients through the full spectrum of the specialty. The University Hospital is a large tertiary care centre and level III trauma unit. It is affiliated to Warwick Medical School (Warwick University).

Typical rota (example only): Monday-Friday AM Ward round, Clinic, Theatre (open/Lap), Pro Rota, Theatre (Robotic-3:4), Wardround/Theatre (DSU), Journal club/teaching, Theatre (robotic-1:4), PM Clinic (Admin), Theatre (open/Lap), Pro rota, Theatre (Robotic-3:4), HPB MDM, Theatre (robotic-1:4), Departmental Teaching, Grand wardround.

Job responsibilities

The University Hospital is over a thousand bedded tertiary care, level III trauma unit. It is affiliated to Warwick Medical School (Warwick University) which is one of the foremost institutions in the Country.
