Senior Clinical Fellow in Haematology (Haemostasis & Thrombosis)

The appointment is to commence as soon as possible for a fixed term period of 12 months for a candidate who has completed MRCP and wishes to gain further experience in haemostasis and thrombosis.

The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are suitable for a candidate who has completed at least 4 years of post graduate training, an existing haematology trainee or as a post CCT clinical fellowship.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within the adult H&T multidisciplinary team to provide high quality care for patients with inherited and acquired bleeding, thrombotic and immune haematology disorders. The post holder will see patients in H&T clinics, including immuno haematology (ITP, TTP). There will be opportunities to gain experience in liaison haematology, as well as in the care of inpatients. The post holder will not be contracted to contribute to the out of hours resident doctor on call rota. The post holder will be supervised and supported by designated members of the H&T consultant team.

Job responsibilities

The duties of this post are equivalent to a Specialty Trainee ST3 - ST7 and full details are listed in the Job Description document.

Person Specification Qualifications

• Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
• Completion of all parts of MRCP.
• FRCPath.

Clinical experience

• 4 years or more full time post graduate experience (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least 2 years of which has been in an adult general medicine specialty.
• Experience working in Haematology.
• Wider experience in different units in related specialties.

Research

• Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
• Basic understanding of research methods and statistics.
• Publications in peer reviewed journals.
• Understanding of the issues surrounding clinical research.

Teaching and training

• Evidence of experience and enthusiasm for teaching.
• Training in teaching methods.
• To have the ability and willingness to teach at all levels and to all groups of staff.
• Evidence of successful feedback from teaching.
• Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months.
• Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio.

Personal attributes

• Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix).
• The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC' good medical practice (2013).
