Job Description
Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Sunday. This is a fixed-term post for up to 12 months.

Fellowship Details

We have a vacancy in Hip Preservation / Young Adult Hip for 1 post-CCT fellowship in Trauma & Orthopaedics. The post is available from February 2025 for a period of 6-12 months. Fellows will be involved in both elective and trauma care, including on-call responsibilities. The current rota is full shift and staff are 1A level (50% Supplement).

About the Unit

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow is a major centre for orthopaedics, with 36 consultants and a wide range of procedures including hip arthroplasty, revision arthroplasty, arthroscopy and young adult hip surgery. The unit collaborates with Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and operates as the Major Trauma Centre for the West of Scotland (since 2021).

Fellows are expected to take a leadership role and to participate in research, aiming to present two research projects per 12 months, with at least one publication. Available subspecialty interests include: hip surgery, metastatic tumour hip surgery and emergency hip surgery for prosthetic joint infection and peri-prosthetic fractures.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in elective and trauma orthopaedic services, including on-call duties.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills appropriate to seniority.
  • Engage in research activities and contribute to project outputs (e.g., presentations, publications).
  • Rotational exposure as defined by the fellowship, with supervision by senior staff (Mr. Christopher Crome).
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Non-training post; not recognised for training. GMC registration and a licence to practice are required to practice medicine in the UK.
