Job Description
Senior Clinical Fellow - Respiratory

This is an exciting time to join Respiratory Medicine at SWFT. The Department is developing on multiple areas. An EBUS service is expected to start soon. A Biologics service for severe asthma (potentially also for COPD) is also expected to start soon. We are also about to start Lung Cancer Screening service for the local community. Extensive discussions are in progress to have a comprehensive Sleep service; currently a Diagnostics service is in place, but the plan is to expand to include a treatment service soon.

Main duties of the job

This is an important appointment and the post holder would be expected to provide senior level cover in inpatients and outpatients, work together with consultants and other professionals to continue to deliver a first rate service, and assist in the major developments planned for the department as mentioned above.

It is expected that the post holder will have ample opportunity to develop professional knowledge and skills in essential aspects of Respiratory Medicine.

Job responsibilities
  • Support the inpatient service in Respiratory at Warwick Hospital. Manage specialist respiratory ward with 25 beds, negative pressure rooms, single and double side rooms, procedure room for day case procedures, NIV machines for acute COPD patients. Carry out regular ward rounds, assist juniors and maintain daily contact to ensure patients progress to plan.
  • Outpatient workload/service: Clinics held in the general outpatient department with Respiratory physiology support. Separate clinics for lung cancer, tuberculosis, ILD and bronchiectasis. Lung cancer MDT run weekly with surgical opinion via video link from Coventry. Lung function lab staffed by two full time equivalent physiologists with tests including basic lung function, body plethysmography, home polysomnography/oximetry, bronchoprovocation, hypoxic challenge, cardio pulmonary exercise testing. Respiratory nurse specialists run LTOT/Ambulatory oxygen/admission prevention service for COPD and end stage respiratory disease. Pulmonary rehabilitation programme runs at hospital and community centres.
Professional Experience
  • FY1, FY2 and CMT1 & 2 Years (or equivalent) completed.
  • Clinical experience in management of acute general medicine patients from unselected emergency referrals.
  • NHS experience at a Registrar or senior SHO level.
Academic achievements
  • MRCP or equivalent.
