Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and results-driven Senior Chemical Technology Engineer to join the dynamic Process Engineering team of SABIC in Bergen op Zoom. This role is ideal for an experienced professional eager to make a significant impact on our advanced chemical processes. The client is looking for an experiences Process Engineer for the PPE Vacuum emission reduction project.

SABIC's Technical Department in Bergen op Zoom is a cornerstone of our operational excellence, driving the Integrity, Reliability, Improvement, and Sustainability across the entire site. Comprising approximately 45 dedicated professionals, the department is structured into specialized sub-teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.

The Process Engineering Team plays a critical role in the strategic development and operational support of our chemical and compounding facilities. Our responsibilities span from conducting comprehensive Feasibility Studies and leading Front-End Engineering (Conceptual and Basic Design) to providing expert, short-term troubleshooting support for complex operational challenges. They maintain a strong, integrated partnership with Project Management throughout the design and execution phases, ensuring seamless transition from concept to reality.

Job Purpose & Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Chemical Technology Engineer, you will be instrumental in driving continuous improvement and innovation within our manufacturing operations. Your expertise will be critical in optimizing processes, enhancing safety, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our technologies.

Strategic Project Leadership: You will assume full ownership of complex projects, guiding them from initial conceptualization and development through rigorous implementation and post-launch follow-up. This involves close collaboration with diverse cross-functional departments, leveraging your profound technical expertise, unwavering commitment to EHSS (Environment, Health, Safety, and Security) standards, and a highly collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Driving Impactful Improvements: Be the catalyst for significant change by identifying, developing, and implementing high-impact improvement projects. These initiatives will be meticulously aligned with both functional and overarching business goals, focusing on enhancing EHSS performance, driving cost efficiencies, advancing sustainability efforts, optimizing energy consumption, and expanding both capacity and capability. You will translate these opportunities into well-defined, feasible project proposals.

Cross-Functional Engagement & Influence: Proactively engage and build strong relationships with key stakeholders across various departments, including Operations, Maintenance, and other engineering disciplines within the Technical Department. You will also collaborate with Technology and Product Management teams, leveraging your communication and influencing skills to drive consensus and achieve project objectives.

Excellence in Process Design & Delivery: Take lead responsibility for the development and delivery of comprehensive conceptual design packages. This includes meticulous process design and thorough start-up preparation, with a keen focus on integrating process and machine safety, ensuring reliability, optimizing operability, maintaining stringent quality standards, adhering to project timelines, and managing costs effectively. You will meticulously follow up on projects to ensure all objectives are fully realized and sustained.

Innovative Problem Solving & Solution Creation: Apply deep insight and extensive knowledge of chemical engineering unit operations and our proprietary processes to CREATE highly effective and innovative solutions to complex technical challenges. You are expected to continuously grow and develop your expertise, aspiring to become a multi-unit subject matter expert within our diverse technological landscape.

Technical Authority & Mentorship: Serve as a primary technical expert, providing authoritative guidance and support for production issue resolution, advanced process design, comprehensive safety studies, and the development and delivery of specialized training programs. You will actively contribute to building and sharing expertise in our core process technologies, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or similar
  • 5-8 years working experience in process engineering and technical projects in the chemical, food or pharma industry. Expertise with solids handling has a preference.
  • Process engineering and project management skills at an advanced level; Knowledge on HAZOP studies
  • Risk based analytical mindset and experience in facilitation and chairing of multi-disciplinary meetings

Terms of employment

This is a challenging role within a dynamic environment, offering diverse work and ample opportunities for your personal growth. You'll be working under a secondment agreement at SABIC for one year, with hours ranging from 32-40 per week. Working remote is possible: 1 day per week.

Location: Bergen op Zoom

Salary of euro gross per month based on 40 h per week, dependent on knowledge and work experience.

8.33% holiday allowance calculated over 12 monthly salaries.
