Job Description
Job Summary 
Vision Contracting is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to manage day to day procurement across live construction projects. This is a delivery role. You will be responsible for sourcing material, placing orders, managing lead times, and keeping sites supplied while achieving best value within agreed procurement frameworks.
You will work closely with Project Managers, Site Teams, Commercial, and the Purchasing Manager to ensure projects are properly resourced and commercially controlled.
This is a hands on role for someone who understands site pressure and can operate in a fast paced contracting environment.
Key Activities Project Procurement- Procure materials, plant, for assigned projects
- Analyse returns and prepare recommendations for approval
- Negotiate pricing within agreed parameters
- Place orders once approved
- Track long lead items and critical materials
- Act as primary procurement contact for Project Managers and Site Managers
- Attend site meetings when required
- Resolve delivery issues quickly to avoid programme delays
- Coordinate call offs and phased deliveries
- Manage substitutions and alternative sourcing where needed
- Travel required weekly to our Dublin office
- Support Quantity Surveyors during procurement and delivery
- Ensure purchases align with budgets and cost plans
- Maintain accurate procurement records
- Highlight cost risks or supply issues early
- Use preferred suppliers and frameworks
- Maintain professional relationships with merchants and subcontractors
- Monitor supplier performance on your projects
- Escalate serious issues to the Purchasing Manager
- Ensure materials meet specification and certification requirements
- Follow company approval processes
- Maintain procurement trackers and reports
- Support audits when required
- Minimum 5 - 7 years construction buying experience
- Background with Irish main contractors or major subcontractors
- Proven experience procuring building materials
- Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong understanding of Irish construction supply chains
- Comfortable working directly with site teams
- Quantity Surveying experience is a distinct advantage
- Strong negotiation skills
- Highly organised and detail focused
- Excellent communication
- Ability to work under pressure
- Proficient in Excel and procurement systems
- Full driving licence
- Commercially Aware
