About the Role
We're looking for a highly experienced Senior Estimator to lead and strengthen our estimating team at TruTrade. This is a hands-on leadership role, perfect for someone who thrives on producing accurate and competitive tenders, enjoys mentoring junior team members, and is confident representing the business in both client and supply chain relationships.
As a Senior Estimator, you'll take ownership of the estimating function from enquiry through to contract award - ensuring quality, consistency, and profitability across residential construction projects.
What You'll Bring
Required:
Minimum 5 years' experience in an estimating role within residential construction
Strong background in takeoffs, BOQs, and pricing for new builds
Familiar with SMM7 , NRM3 , and other industry-standard measurement methods
Fully conversant with major forms of construction contracts, especially JCT
Proficient in Microsoft Office , especially Excel, and other estimating/takeoff software
Proven ability to lead projects and supervise others within a busy estimating function
Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills, capable of building lasting relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
Preferred:
Experience working within a PQS, consultancy, or main contractor environment
Relevant qualifications in estimating, quantity surveying, or construction management
Exposure to a range of software platforms and modern digital estimating tools
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Estimating Function: Manage the full estimating lifecycle - from initial enquiry through to tender submission and contract award
Team Oversight: Support, review, and approve work from junior and assistant estimators to ensure accuracy and quality
Client Relationship Management: Liaise with new and existing clients, providing clear, confident communication throughout the tender process
Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination: Obtain, chase, and evaluate quotations, ensuring competitive pricing and reliable partnerships
File & Process Management: Set up and maintain digital and physical estimate files, ensuring tidy, organised archives
Departmental Input: Contribute to strategic planning, pricing models, and the continual improvement of internal systems and workflows
Support During Peak Periods: Offer assistance across departments when needed, maintaining a collaborative and supportive working environment
What Success Looks Like
Estimates are accurate, timely, and profitable, with minimal revisions
Junior team members are supported and empowered to grow
Clients feel confident and well-informed throughout the estimating process
Supply chain relationships are well-managed and produce consistent, high-quality pricing
Estimating operations are structured, scalable, and continuously improving
