Job Description

Smart DCC is seeking an experienced Senior Domain Architect to play a pivotal role in shaping and assuring the technical landscape of our smart energy infrastructure. Operating across multiple projects and domains, you will ensure that solutions delivered by our service providers are robust, scalable, and strategically aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

This is a leadership role that bridges enterprise-level architectural strategy and project-level execution, driving consistency, innovation, and long-term maintainability across our technology ecosystem.

How you will contribute to transforming energy and shaping the future.
  • Act as Design Authority, providing technical leadership and assurance across solution designs.
  • Lead cloud-native solution design, including microservices, APIs, and data platforms.
  • Provide expert guidance on infrastructure and network architecture, integrating cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Shape and assure cross-domain integration for end-to-end coherence and operational integrity.
  • Ensure adherence to architecture governance, regulatory compliance, and security standards.
  • Drive architecture excellence and innovation, leveraging automation and emerging technologies.
  • Engage stakeholders at all levels, translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights.
  • Oversee contractors and vendors, ensuring quality and value for investment.
  • Lead architecture for major programmes, managing technical risks and interdependencies.
  • Champion continuous improvement and represent DCC in external forums, including government and industry engagements.
  • Influence technology roadmaps and provide architectural input into business cases.
Your skills that will enable us to fulfil our purpose:
  • Expertise in telecommunications network architecture (IP/MPLS, SD-WAN, radio access networks, 3GPP standards).
  • Strong experience in cloud-native architecture (microservices, containerization, serverless computing).
  • Knowledge of modern infrastructure (SDN, virtualized environments, hardware hosting).
  • Hands on experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid strategies.
  • Proficiency in enterprise and solution architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF).
  • Systems integration expertise, including OSS/BSS platforms and API-driven solutions.
  • Strong understanding of security and compliance by design (GDPR, ISO 27001).
  • Proven ability to design for business continuity and resilience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Leadership experience managing contractors and delivery teams.
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen to align technology with organisational goals.
  • Knowledge of the UK Smart Metering Implementation Programme and its role in national energy strategy.
