Job Description

The Money Advice Team, part of the larger Advice Services, is a welfare and benefits team that supports approximately 1 100 people a month identifying financial support, grants and discounts and dealing with debt. Working with partners both externally and internally, they're able to ensure the best help is given to improve financial and living circumstances.

The Team is expanding due to the demand and the essential need of people visiting the 15+ locations across Cardiff that the team are committed to attending.

About the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 3 committed individuals with proven experience delivering excellent customer service and having a high standard of knowledge on Welfare Benefits amongst other things, to deliver Money Advice.

They will deliver this service from Central Library Hub as well as the outreach hubs, Foodbank Distribution Centres that the team are committed to attending as well as the regular one-off events that the team are frequently invited to attend.

They will also be required to assist new and current members of the team with Money Advice enquiries as well as supporting with the progress and expansion of the Money Advice Team.

The successful candidates will provide advice on Welfare Benefits, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction as well Grants and Discounts and schemes and projects run by Cardiff Council. These services are to be delivered in person, telephone, web chat or in writing.

What We Are Looking For From You

The successful candidates will have a high standard of knowledge of the topics involved in Money Advice support, namely;

  • Welfare Benefits and Income Maximisation, including UC; its eligibility and impact on other benefits.
  • Council Tax and Council Tax Reduction
  • Disability Benefits and appeals
  • Grants, Discounts, Cost of Living Support and schemes associated with the support of those on low/irregular income
  • Referrals and signposting to both internal and external organisations

There are 3 temporary posts available until 31st March 2027.

Internal candidates who wish to apply for this position on a secondment basis must obtain approval prior to application using Form SEC1 (4.C.081). Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.

These posts are subject to Disclosure and Barring Service Basic checks.

The ability to speak other languages in particular Welsh, Somali, Arabic or Polish would be an advantage.

Evening and weekend working will be required on a rota basis.
