About the role

Cognito is looking for a financial services and fintech media and communications expert. You will have the opportunity to work with some of Cognito's most exciting clients, from fast-growth companies to established organizations aiming to enhance their profile. Our client portfolio includes leading financial services, fintech, and payments clients based in London and the US.

This role is ideal for an established account manager seeking a position in a specialist, integrated, and international consultancy. We prefer candidates with specific experience working with financial services and FinTech organizations-including banks, asset managers, exchanges, market structure businesses, alternative investors, professional service firms, and FinTech startups of various sizes.

You will work directly with senior communications teams and C-suite spokespeople within client organizations, as well as with Cognito's directors and account executives. Your responsibilities include overseeing and ensuring the high-quality delivery of all client work, managing daily PR account operations, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to Cognito standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Independently manage day-to-day client relationships and provide strategic communication guidance for fintech and payments clients.
  • Maintain ongoing team planning, KPIs, and account strategies.
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with clients and journalists.
  • Guide and motivate team members to produce high-quality work.
  • Stay informed about industry trends to proactively seek client success.
  • Develop sector expertise to provide insightful counsel to clients.
  • Manage relationships with senior stakeholders within client organizations.
  • Enhance managerial and commercial skills to support long-term account success.
  • Assist in growing existing accounts and acquiring new business through networking and relationship-building.
  • Collaborate with account leads to develop and execute client strategies from start to finish.
  • Require a minimum of 4 years' experience in communications, ideally within an agency environment, with familiarity in financial services, investment, capital markets, banking, FinTech, professional services, or sustainable finance.
  • Possess an excellent media contact book in financial services, tech, and fintech sectors.
  • Be a self-starter with a creative, entrepreneurial mindset, with a proven track record of implementing ideas and assessing outcomes.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Be a team player with enthusiasm, motivation, commitment, initiative, and persuasiveness.
  • Show high energy and integrity, respecting diverse opinions and styles, and being accountable.
  • Think strategically and execute quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as needed.
