Job Description

Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of young people by helping them access education in a way that works for them?

We are currently recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Shoeburyness, working closely with students who have a range of additional needs.

About the Role

You will support students both in and out of the classroom, helping them to engage with learning, develop independence and build confidence.

The role involves working with pupils with a variety of needs, including:

  • Autism (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)

Many students may require structured support, clear routines and differentiated approaches to help them succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND
  • Supporting pupils to access lessons through adapted resources and strategies
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Supporting communication using visual aids and structured approaches
  • Assisting with sensory needs and interventions where required
  • Working closely with teachers and the SENCO to implement EHCP targets
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and social development
  • Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment
About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEND (desirable)
  • Is patient, empathetic and resilient
  • Has a genuine interest in supporting additional needs
  • Communicates effectively and works well as part of a team
  • Can remain calm and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
  • Is willing to learn and develop new skills

Experience in care, youth work or support roles is highly transferable.
