We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at a local primary school. This full-time role involves providing tailored support to a child diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The ideal candidate will have experience in special educational needs (SEN) and possess Manual Handling training.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide one-to-one support to a child with Down Syndrome, ensuring they engage effectively in lessons and school activities.
- Implement personalised learning plans developed in collaboration with the SENCO and other educational professionals.
- Assist in the development of social skills and independence in a school setting.
- Use Manual Handling techniques to assist the child with mobility and daily activities safely.
- Monitor and report on the child's progress to teachers and parents.
- Adapt communication and learning materials to meet the child's needs.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing environment that promotes learning and development.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably with children with special educational needs.
- Manual Handling training and experience, specifically in an educational or care setting.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by children with Down Syndrome.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
- Relevant qualifications in education or special needs education are preferred.
