Job Description
Are you passionate about using physical education to inspire and support young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you thrive in a setting where every day is different, and every breakthrough matters? Academics are currently looking for a dedicated Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to join a Alterntive Provision in Sittingbourne.In this unique position, you will use PE, movement-based learning, and physical engagement to help children with SEN access the curriculum, regulate their emotions, and develop confidence in both academic and personal skills. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to tailor learning experiences that meet the needs of each individual learner.
Responsibilities
Support children with a range of SEN, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and communication needsUse PE and physical activities to enhance engagement and academic learningDeliver small-group and 1:1 sessions that develop motor skills, focus, confidence, and wellbeingAssist in implementing personalised learning plans and behaviour support strategiesPromote positive relationships and model emotional regulationHelp create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environmentSupport PE lessons and lead adapted physical activities when requiredWork collaboratively with the wider team to ensure consistent support for every learner
What We're Looking For
Experience working with children with SEN, especially in an alternative provision or specialist settingConfidence in leading or supporting PE-based activitiesA trauma-informed and child-centred approachStrong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationshipsPatience, resilience, and a passion for helping young people thriveRelevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant Level 2/3, sports coaching awards) are desirable but not essential
