SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking an experienced, dedicated, and empathetic 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal Reception pupil at a primary school in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and the school's SEN team to ensure the pupil receives the necessary support to thrive in their educational journey.
- Provide 1:1 support to the non-verbal Reception pupil, ensuring their individual needs are met within the classroom setting
- Collaborate with the class teacher to adapt and differentiate learning materials and activities to suit the pupil's abilities and learning style
- Implement and monitor the pupil's Individual Education Plan (IEP) in conjunction with the school's SEN team
- Encourage the pupil's social interaction and communication skills through various strategies and interventions
- Assist the pupil with personal care needs, such as toileting and dressing, as required
- Maintain accurate records of the pupil's progress, challenges, and achievements, and share these with the class teacher and SEN team
- Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills in supporting SEN pupils
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent experience
- Proven experience working with SEN pupils, particularly those with communication and interaction difficulties
- Knowledge of strategies and interventions to support non-verbal pupils, such as visual aids, PECS, and Makaton
- Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and its application in a classroom setting
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting SEN pupils
