Job Description

A specialist SEN school in Peterlee is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 5-16 with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties and complex medical needs.

The school operates with a nurturing, therapeutic ethos, focusing on sensory engagement, communication and life skills development.

Location: Peterlee
Hours: 8:30am - 4:00pm

Daily Expectations & Routine
  • 8:30am staff start
  • Highly structured and personalised timetables
  • Sensory sessions, communication work and life skills activities
  • Fully supported break and lunch times
  • 4:00pm finish with staff handovers
The Role
  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis
  • Assisting with personal care and mobility
  • Supporting communication using PECS and sensory cues
  • Encouraging engagement through sensory activities
  • Working alongside therapists and teaching staff
The Pupils
  • PMLD
  • SLD
  • Physical disabilities
  • Complex medical needs
  • Limited or non-verbal communication
Experience Requirements

Desirable but not essential:

  • Care or SEN experience
  • Support work backgrounds

Full training provided.
