Our client, a forward-thinking educational institution located in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Class Teacher to join their team. With a competitive salary range of £28,000 to £39,000 per annum, this full-time position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students with special educational needs.
As a SEN Class Teacher, you will be responsible for creating and implementing engaging and effective lesson plans tailored to the unique needs and abilities of your students. Your role will involve working closely with a team of dedicated professionals, including teaching assistants and specialist therapists, to ensure the holistic development and well-being of your learners.
The successful candidate will possess a strong background in special educational needs, with a deep understanding of the challenges and strategies required to support students with diverse learning profiles. Your ability to foster a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment will be essential, as you guide your students through their educational journey.
In addition to your teaching responsibilities, you will be expected to collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to ensure a seamless integration of support both within and beyond the classroom. This role will also involve actively participating in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in the field of special education.
To be considered for this position, you must hold a relevant teaching qualification, such as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed. ), with a specialism in special educational needs. Experience in a similar role within a SEN setting is highly desirable, as is a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of young learners.
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that cater to the diverse learning needs of your students
- Implement evidence-based teaching strategies and interventions to support the academic, social, and emotional development of your learners
- Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive and coordinated approach to student support
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, including the creation and review of individual education plans (IEPs)
- Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to provide regular updates on student progress and to gather important feedback
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to continually enhance your skills and knowledge in the field of special education
- Contribute to the overall development and improvement of the school's SEN provision through active involvement in departmental and whole-school initiatives
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification
- Specialisation or significant experience in working with students with special educational needs
- Demonstrated success in creating and delivering effective, differentiated lesson plans for SEN students
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
- Thorough understanding of the relevant SEN legislation, policies, and best practices
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to stay abreast of the latest trends and innovations in special education
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in a similar SEN teaching role within a primary or secondary school setting
- Additional qualifications or training in specific SEN areas (e.g. , autism, dyslexia, ADHD)
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to create a positive, inclusive classroom environment
- Proficiency in the use of assistive technology and digital resources to support SEN students
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively
- Resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
