Secondary SEND Support Assistant - Wakefield - September 2026

A supportive and forward-thinking further-education setting in Wakefield is seeking a dedicated SEND Secondary Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a student from September 2026. You will provide consistent, personalised support to a secondary-age student with additional needs, helping them access learning, develop independence and feel confident within the further-education environment. This role suits someone patient, proactive and passionate about supporting young people with SEND.

• Offering 1:1 support to a student with identified SEND needs
• Assisting with learning tasks, organisation and engagement
• Supporting emotional regulation and promoting positive behaviour
• Liaising with teaching staff, SENCO and external professionals
• Helping adapt resources to meet individual learning requirements
• Encouraging independence and confidence in both academic and social settings

• Experience supporting young people with SEND in a school or FE environment
• Strong communication, empathy and resilience
• Ability to build trust and maintain professional boundaries
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
• A positive, student-centred approach and willingness to learn
