POSITION

Junior/Senior High School Math Teacher - Math (EX) (EQ)

SUMMARY OF JOB

To provide the students under his/her direct supervision a quality educational program, which is appropriate for the assigned students, that meets their ability and appropriate for the subject and growth, and personal characteristics.

QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum)
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in Math (EX) (EQ); preference given to additional endorsement in Science (DQ)
  • Experience with Advanced Placement teaching preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Michigan Merit Curriculum/Common Core Standards and Grade Level Content Expectations
  • Competent in using a variety of technology applications related to classroom management, 21st Century Learning, differentiated instruction
  • A high level of interest in collaboration.
  • Adept at using formative assessment and curricular development
  • Power School experience preferred
  • Student focused
  • Maintains professional standards
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Possess strong technology skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional rapport with students, staff and families

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan and implement a creative, engaging and stimulating classroom program that entails a high level of collaboration among students, includes interdisciplinary, project-based work that aligns with State standards and benchmarks, and which utilizes educational technologies appropriately.
  • Experience with using educational technologies and active with the integration of technology . Engages students virtually or face to face.
  • Demonstrate skill in using a variety of methods and techniques to meet the needs of students
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the subject matter being taught
  • Works cooperatively with administrators, student services personnel and teachers, to ensure the delivery of curriculum
  • Evaluate the progress of each student through formal and informal assessment.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
  • Communicates school learning teams on pupil progress
  • Participates in curriculum and other development activities
  • Advocate for the school, its staff, students and programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • The ability to establish cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • A comfort and excitement about working with children from diverse backgrounds.
  • Promote high expectations, demonstrate a caring attitude, and establish an environment that supports social, emotional, and academic development in students.
  • Frequently communicate with parents about their child's progress by phone, email, in conferences, newsletters, and through report cards. Be available for individual meetings when needed.
  • Use positive and productive techniques for improving student behavior
  • Other duties as assigned.

Must be able to communicate with others and clearly understand normal conversations in person and on the telephone. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
