Job Description

The role of Second Chef at Barchester Healthcare provides an opportunity to work in a care home setting, delivering high-quality, nutritious, and flavoursome meals to residents. The successful candidate will assist the Head Chef in menu development and the creation of a warm, efficient, and enjoyable kitchen environment.

Main duties of the job

As a Second Chef at Barchester Healthcare, you will work closely with the Head Chef to create nutritious, well-balanced, and appetising menus using fresh, seasonal produce. You will be responsible for managing the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence, overseeing stock control, and ensuring compliance with HACCP standards. The role also involves engaging with residents to understand their preferences and tailoring the menu accordingly. You will assist the Head Chef in creating nutritious, flavoursome and well balanced menus whilst working with residents to tailor menus around them. Requirements

  • Personable and warm approach with a genuine interest in resident wellbeing
  • City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent
  • Good understanding of nutrition
  • Experience working with fresh seasonal food
  • Ability to create a warm and welcoming environment within the home
  • Confidence engaging with residents to create appetising and nutritious menus
  • Good understanding of HACCP
Additional duties
  • Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence
