Second Chef - Care Home

Main duties of the job

As a Second Chef at Barchester Healthcare, you will work closely with the Head Chef to create nutritious, well-balanced, and appetising menus using fresh, seasonal produce. You will be responsible for managing the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence, overseeing stock control, and ensuring compliance with HACCP standards. The role also involves engaging with residents to understand their preferences and tailoring the menu accordingly. Requirements

• Personable and warm approach with a genuine interest in resident wellbeing
• City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent
• Good understanding of nutrition
• Experience working with fresh seasonal food
• Ability to create a warm and welcoming environment within the home
• Confidence engaging with residents to create appetising and nutritious menus
• Good understanding of HACCP

Additional duties

• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence
• Assist Head Chef in menu development
• Work with fresh produce to deliver high quality and wholesome dishes
• Create a warm, efficient and welcoming environment

• Complete regular audits
• Manage stock control

Person Specification Qualifications

• City & Guilds, NVQ, or SVQ qualification
