The York Diocesan Board of Education (YDBE) leads this work across 122 Church schools and academies, supporting them to deliver high quality education shaped by the Church of England's Vision for Education. Working in partnership with local authorities, Multi Academy Trusts, Teaching School Hubs and national bodies, the YDBE promotes strong standards, effective governance and thriving Christian school communities.
We are seeking a School Development Adviser to join our Education Team on a maternity cover basis. This role is central to supporting school improvement, developing Christian leadership, and ensuring schools are well prepared for Ofsted and SIAMS inspections.
Key Responsibilities- Advise and support schools in delivering the Church of England's Vision for Education.
- Contribute to strategic leadership across the DBE and Diocesan education structures.
- Support school improvement through monitoring, development visits and partnership work with LAs, MATs and Teaching School Hubs.
- Assist schools with SIAMS preparation, self evaluation and action planning.
- Attend Ofsted and SIAMS inspections as required.
- Provide guidance on Christian leadership, governance and headteacher appointments.
- Represent the Diocese on relevant committees and working groups.

- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- The capacity to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively
- A flexible, team-oriented approach
You will bring experience in school leadership or school improvement, a commitment to the Christian foundation of Church schools, and the ability to work collaboratively and sensitively with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships are essential.
