School Chaplain
Posted 2 hours 57 minutes ago by Lagan College
Job Description
The joint chaplaincy in Lagan College acts as a visible representation of our integrated ethos, which supports children from the two main traditions in Northern Ireland of Protestant and Catholic faith and those of other faiths and none. Both school Chaplains work together in unity to care for our school community, delivering assemblies, supporting the Board of Governors and Principal to promote the integrated ethos and values of the Lagan College which are, respect, equality, reconciliation and service, in keeping with the school's motto, 'Ut sint unum,' - That they may be one (John 17:23).
The visibility of this collaborative approach is important to our integrated school community, particularly on occasions when we navigate issues that are sensitive politically, culturally or religiously.
Joint Chaplaincy
While the Chaplains are there for all the students and staff, irrespective of denomination or tradition, there may be occasions when this post holder will have responsibility to respond to the denominational needs of students and staff of Protestant faith specifically.
It is expected that the successful applicant will hold qualified teacher status as they may be called upon to deliver some teaching in the College. However, our Chaplains main substantive role is to oversee the school's Chaplaincy Centre and to work alongside the Principal.
Embodying the ethos and values of the college and the ability to show care and compassion with young people, staff and families is a prerequisite for anyone undertaking this important position.
