As part of continued growth, our client is seeking a Principal Electrical/EC&I Engineer to take a lead technical role within the Engineering department. This individual will report directly to the Technical Director and act as the technical authority across all aspects of electrical, control, and instrumentation design.
Key Responsibilities:Lead EC&I design strategy and execution across all projects.
Support grid connection activities including applications, grid studies, and compliance.
Define power requirements for hydrogen production and related utilities.
Develop concept designs for renewable power installations.
Produce scopes of work, technical specifications, and data sheets for HV equipment.
Review contractor and OEM design documentation.
Oversee electrical quality and safety through manufacture, construction, and commissioning.
Support HAZOP studies and ensure compliance with ATEX and functional safety standards.
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams for integrated project delivery.
Perform electrical system modelling and analysis.
Extensive experience delivering projects as a senior/principal electrical engineer.
In-depth knowledge of HV and LV systems, control instrumentation, and protection systems.
Proven experience with ATEX-rated equipment and functional safety standards.
Familiarity with electrical power system studies (preferably using ETAP).
Strong understanding of electrical codes (IEC, BS) and earthing systems.
Expertise with HV equipment (33kV+).
Project experience in sectors such as renewables, power generation, or process industries.
Direct experience with electrolyser systems or green hydrogen projects.
Exposure to project development and DNO engagement.
Compex, TUV FSE, and HV certifications desirable.
Hands-on commissioning experience.
Advanced analytical and technical problem-solving capabilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with ETAP and familiarity with ElectricalOM, Amtech, or similar tools.
Microsoft Office proficiency.
BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline.
Chartered Engineer status or working toward it.
Minimum 10 years' experience in heavy industry environments.
