Our clients Engineering Team uses a mixture of agile and waterfall project management approaches to lead and manage the teams, their activities, and outputs. This hybrid approach enables the best elements of both approaches to be used as appropriate for that team's activities and outputs. The Core Engineering Team Project Manager works to Programme Manager priorities, managing technical projects within the Core Product (Development) Team to deliver their outputs to the required time and quality standards to meet their customers' requirements. These projects are technically focused, delivering new functionality to enhance the capability across a multi-disciplined set of teams. Key work-packages will consist of Software, Virtualisation and infra and networking and applications. They will lead the Planning Increment processes for each project, notably the PI planning and scheduling, co-ordinate the outputs of the Engineering teams and lead delivery to ensure that the projects hit the customer's operational delivery timelines, providing status reporting to stakeholders. The focus of this role will be on planning the introduction of new IT solutions to replace existing in-service Systems. This is at the Concept and Design Stage of the Engineering Lifecycle.
Responsibilities & Output
- Planning and creation of associated plans for all Project Activities in accordance with Programme deliverables
- Review all planned project activities defining the activity prioritisation, duration and resource requirements
- Lead PI Planning and estimating, ensuring that ISP milestone delivery is met,
- Create and track project JIRA EPICs and tasks, also allocation of project activities to resources (along with project Teach Lead)
- Plan, Review, Assure and ensure the correct closure of JIRA Tasks
- Managing and documenting project RAIDO and escalation to Programme RAIDO where required
- Attend internal/external Stakeholder meeting to provide planning expertise
- With the respective project technical leads support the planning of project resource requirements
- Responsible for reviewing and identifying opportunities to optimise project efficiency
Essential Skills
- Leadership and management of multi-disciplinary technical teams within an Enterprise scale MOD programme
- A min of 2 years' experience and knowledge of IT projects, with the ability to challenge technical decision making
- A minimum of 5 years' experience and knowledge of delivering project management in waterfall or agile environments, and working knowledge of the following areas:
- Requirements Management;
- Planning;
- Scheduling;
- Resource Management;
- Risk and Issue Management;
- Quality Management;
- Governance;
- Stakeholder Management;
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems and propose new ideas.
- Flexibility of mind to adapt project management methodologies to the environment.
- Ability to coordinate multiple work streams or teams simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Competency in MS Office Suite, including MS Project.
- Experience of delivering an ICS solution.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of the Atlassian toolset (JIRA and Confluence) to record and document work.
- A qualification in a recognised project management methodology such as PRINCE2/APMP/MSP or SAFe4/Agile equivalent.
- Experience of working within the UK MoD as a Project Manager preferably in the delivery of IS/IT.
- Have a good understanding from a technical perspective of military deployed CIS and associated CIS Infrastructure.
- Experience working with secure ICS.
- Experience of transitioning from waterfall to agile.
- Experience of SAFe4.
