SC Cleared Senior Firmware (FPGA) Engineer

We are seeking 2 x SC Cleared Senior Firmware (FPGA) Engineers to join a leading defence technology organisation in Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge airborne applications, developing high-performance firmware solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop innovative FPGA firmware solutions using VHDL.

• Verify designs using VHDL or SystemVerilog/UVM.

• Analyse system-level documents and derive detailed firmware requirements.

• Implement high-speed interface design & integration (PCIe, DDR3, Ethernet).

• Specify and manage complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route.

• Support system-related verification, integration, and debugging.

• Work to structured firmware design processes (eg, RTCA DO-254 or similar).

Essential Skills & Experience

• Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), ideally specialising in FPGA/Digital techniques.

• Proven FPGA design experience with VHDL.

• Familiarity with SystemVerilog/UVM verification.

• Expertise with current FPGA technologies (Xilinx, AMD, Altera, Microchip) and associated tools.

• Experience with high-speed interface design and working to industry standards.

• Siemens design tool experience.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work within structured engineering life cycles.

Desirable Skills

• AMD devices/chipset experience.

• Microchip FPGAs experience preferred.

• Model-driven engineering tools (eg, MATLAB, Simulink).

Due to the nature of the project and role, the successful candidate will have a valid UK SC Clearance prior to a start.
