Job Description

We are looking for a compassionate GP to join our team, dedicated to providing high-quality patient care and able to work confidently and effectively in a fast-paced primary care setting. We are one of the largest GP practices in the Canterbury area, caring for over 21,000 patients across three sites: Northgate Medical Practice, Chartham Surgery and Blean Surgery.

Key Information
  • Sessions: 6 per week
  • Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
  • Transport: A full driving licence and access to your own transport are essential, as the role requires travel across all three sites.

As a Health Education England-approved training practice, we regularly welcome GP registrars, along with nursing, physiotherapy and Kent & Medway medical students, and have a strong culture of learning and development throughout the practice. Since Kent & Medway Medical School opened in 2020, with a clear focus on community-based training, we have been pleased to support that approach, with all of our clinicians involved in teaching and mentoring students. We are also committed to supporting our GPs to develop their own specialist interests and continue to grow within their roles.

Main duties of the job
  • In accordance with the agreed practicatimetable/clinics, undertake a variety of duties including face-to-face and telephone consultations, eConsults, home visits, and the timely management of queries, paperwork, and correspondence.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation
  • Assess the healthcare needs of patients
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Develop care plans in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
  • Provide appropriate counselling and health education
  • Refer patients to other care providers as appropriate
  • Record clear consultation notes to practice standards
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions, prescribing in accordance with the practice protocols
  • Collect data for audit purposesUndertake all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care

Northgate Medical Practice is one of the largest GP practices in the Canterbury area, caring for over 21,000 patients across three sites, Northgate Medical Practice, Chartham Surgery, and Blean Surgery.

Our clinical team consists of 5 Partners, 7 Salaried GPs, 3 Advanced Clinical Practitioners, 6 Nurses, and 7 Healthcare Assistants, supported by eight administrative departments. As part of the Canterbury North Primary Care Network (PCN), we have additional support from the Home Visiting Team, Mental Health Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Clinical Pharmacists, and a Social Prescribing Team.

We are committed to providing the highest quality care for our registered patients and for those referred into our specialist clinics, which include ophthalmology, audiology, ENT, dermatology, family planning, and minor-ops. As a Health Education England approved training practice, we regularly host GP registrars alongside nursing, physiotherapy, and Kent & Medway medical students.

  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, and health and safety
  • Contribute to evaluation, audit, and clinical standard setting within the organisation
  • Contribute to the development of computer-based patient records and the summarising and read-coding of patient data
  • Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate
  • Demonstrate a commitment to learning and evidence-based best practice

  • Attend and participate in any training programs provided by the practice

Person Specification Experience
  • Experience of working in a GP practice
Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • MRCGP or equivalent CCT in General Practice
